What's new in version II
Compared to the original VideoMic GO, the VideoMic GO II has been carefully redesigned and filled with design elements in the form and function of Rode's popular VideoMic NTG. With a redesigned body, suspension and cable, and the ability to work as an analog or digital USB microphone, this version of the microphone is completely different from the original VideoMic GO.
Technology carried over from VideoMic NTG
The VideoMic GO II body features acoustic perforations rather than the linear slots traditionally used in gun mics. This annular line tube technology has been carried over from the Rode VideoMic NTG to provide transparency and natural colorless sound.
Directional Pickup
The VideoMic GO II uses a super-cardioid pickup pattern to focus on the sound in front of it and muffle other sounds from the side and back. Its low-noise electronics and sensitive capacitor element provide more detailed sound than microphones commonly used in cameras and portable recorders.
Connecting a TRS camera
Detachable 3.5mm TRS cable included for quick camera connection. The cable is connected in dual mono, which ensures that the microphone signal is sent identically to both input channels of your camera or portable recording device. The short and flat cord is easy to keep in order.
Full USB microphone functionality
Connect VideoMic GO II to your computer, smartphone or tablet via USB to use it as a USB digital microphone for direct recording to your favorite software. Its built-in A/D converter operates at 24-bit/48kHz for uncompressed, full-resolution audio quality.
MFi certification for Apple iOS mobile devices
VideoMic GO II is officially certified by MFi for full compatibility with Lightning-equipped iOS devices, including iPhone, iPad and iPod. Connect your VideoMic GO II to your iPhone, iPad or iPod via USB using the Rode SC15 USB Type-C to Lightning Auxiliary Cable (sold separately).
Convenient headphone monitoring
When using the VideoMic GO II as a USB microphone, connect headphones to its 3.5mm output for convenient headphone monitoring.
Uses plug-in power or USB power
The VideoMic GO II does not require batteries. It is plug-in powered via a TRS connection to your camera or can be bus powered via USB.
Shockmount with sliding rail and cable management
Recognizing that the rubber bands used in many shock absorbers can tear and stretch, Rohde opted for a rugged Rycote Lyre suspension mount designed to attach to a tube or bar. This simplifies microphone setup and prevents transmission of vibrations from the camera. The retractable shock rail system allows you to move the microphone forward or backward for ideal placement. Forget messy cables; built-in cable management system ensures proper cord placement.
Windshield reduces wind noise
VideoMic GO II features a foam windscreen to minimize unwanted wind noise from light breezes, fans, heaters and air conditioners. For maximum outdoor wind noise reduction, consider a fluffy windscreen such as the Rode WS12 (purchased separately).
