The unique Metabones Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x adapter is used to mount Canon EF lenses on Micro 4/3 mount cameras (Olympus, Panasonic, Blackmagic). The adapter provides electronic communication between the camera and the lens, with support for autofocus and electronic iris control, optical stabilization and distance information transmission. It also reduces the crop factor of Micro 4/3 cameras from 2x to 1.4x, allowing the use of wide-angle lenses. Finally, the Metabones Speed Booster adapter increases the lens aperture by 1 stop, so, for example, a Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L lens on Micro 4/3 cameras becomes a 70mm f/0.9 lens.
The optical design of the Metabones Speed Booster XL 0.71x adapter includes 5 elements combined into 4 groups. The patented optical design concentrates the light intended for the 35mm sensor onto a smaller Micro 4/3 sensor so that the resolution of the optics is not only not reduced, but even increased. The relative aperture (“aperture”) of the lens is increased by 1 stop. Thus, for example, a lens with a nominal aperture of f/1.2 is converted into a lens with aperture of f/0.9.
The crop factor of Micro 4/3 cameras in photo mode is reduced from 2x to 1.4x. This greatly expands the possibilities of shooting with a wide angle of view. The adapter does not support Canon EF-S mount lenses, but can be used with DX format lenses from other manufacturers (Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, etc.). Keep in mind that lenses for APS-C sensors may not cover the entire frame area, and increased vignetting may be observed. Manual lenses with protruding backs may not be supported or may require modification prior to use.
This adapter has a detachable tripod mount. The base of the mount is made in the form of a dovetail and is compatible with tripod heads Arca Swiss, Markins and the like.
